Glaucoma is a symptomless disease of the eye nerve (Optic nerve) and is characterized by progressive loss of vision in either or both eyes.

 Causes/ Risk Factors of Glaucoma

The primary cause of glaucoma is not known but the following risk factors may increase one’s chances of getting the disease.

1.       A known family history of glaucoma

2.       African or Asian ethnicity/ ancestry

3.       Personal history of diabetes or hypertension

4.       History of wear glasses e.g. high myopia or hyperopia

5.       History of trauma/ injury to the eye.

6.       History of eye Surgery

7.       A long history of drug use e.g. corticosteroids

8.       Smoking

9.       Age i.e. people over 40 years.
